Dy Dermatology - Eskata TreatmentAs our bodies change and age, our skin does, too.

Some of those changes aren’t so pleasant: like those pesky brown, mole-like spots that begin to pop up on the face, neck and hairline. Those spots have a few nicknames in the dermatology world: age spots, barnacles, or perhaps the most unflattering of them all, senile warts.

Barnacles? Warts?!

Don’t worry, they aren’t as bad as they sound.

Dermatologists call these “spots” seborrheic keratosis lesions, or SK lesions.

Image - Eskata before and afterSeborrheic keratosis is a skin disorder that is characterized by benign, painless, often wart-like skin lesions that appear to be “stuck” onto the skin. The appearance of these lesions vary. Some are flat, others are raised; some are smooth and have a waxy texture, while others feel more rubbery. They range in color from white to black, however most are usually a shade of brown.

83 million Americans have SK lesions.

Seborrheic keratosis is usually hereditary and can also arise during pregnancy.<

These growths can appear anywhere on the body, but are most common on the face (hairline/temples), neck, chest, and back. Although harmless, these pesky lesions can cause itching, bleeding, or simply irritation by any kind of shoulder straps or other clothing. Some people simply find them irritating and embarrassing.

Most people who have SK lesions want them removed—without any painful treatments. Most patients resort to burning or freezing the lesions off of their bodies, which can leave white or discolored brown marks on the skin. There hasn’t been an easy cosmetic treatment for these lesions, until now.

Dr. Lady Dy of Dy Dermatology Center in Glenview, Illinois, offers Eskata, a new, one-of-a-kind treatment that can help you eliminate those pesky SK lesions.

The Food and Drug Administration approved Eskata, the first-of-its-kind liquid that targets these unsightly spots. Using soft-tip, pen-like applicator, Dr. Dy applies the high-concentration stabilized hydrogen peroxide topical solution to target and treat raised SK lesions.

Dr. Dy can help eliminate SK lesions in as little as one session under 20 minutes.

Here’s how Eskata works: After Dr. Dy has examined the spot and has determined it is not cancer, she will gently apply Eskata to each lesion four times, roughly one minute apart. This helps to moisten the lesion to dissolve it, while avoiding causing damage to the surrounding skin.

Treatment typically only requires a single in-office session. If the treated lesions have not completely cleared approximately three weeks after the first treatment, Dr. Dy will apply another quick treatment.

Eskata treatments are quick and easy, and they require no patient downtime, and they don’t leave any scarring on the skin.

The treatments have little to no side effects for most patients. The most common things patients notice are a stinging sensation at the time of application, itching, stinging, crusting, swelling, redness, and scaling.

If you have SK lesions hanging around your body, don’t feel like they’re stuck on you forever. Dr. Lady Dy specializes in using state-of-the-art treatments like Eskata to help give her patients skin they feel good about.
