Hair Growth Treatments

The are many different types of hair loss, some of which are reversible while others are not. Scalp inflammation which eventuates in a shiny appearance on the scalp will result in permanent hair follicle loss. Therefore, early recognition and intervention is the key to halting or slowing hair loss.  Dr. Dy is a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of hair loss.

The most common form of hair loss is the genetically inherited form, known as pattern baldness found in men and women. Although mostly recognized in men, approximately 40% of women will have pattern hair loss in their lifetime. There are many hair growth treatments which include oral prescription medications, appropriate supplements/ vitamins, topical medicines, laser light therapy, platelet rich plasma treatment (PRP) along with scalp microneedling. Hair transplantation is also a viable option, if appropriate.
Laser light therapy consists of utilizing the visible red light generated in a laser diode. It promotes hair growth by increasing blood and circulation thus, stimulating hair follicle growth.

Platelet rich plasma treatment (PRP) is the latest treatment for hair loss. We use the patient’s own blood to harvest the growth factors that is found in their plasma. The growth factors are
delivered into the patient’s scalp to stimulate hair follicle growth. This procedure has been widely used in wound healing and in the treatment of tendon injuries and osteoarthritis.

Medications include oral prescription drugs and topical prescriptions and growth factors.
