Facial Rejuvenation Treatments by Dr. Lady Dy of Dy Dermatology CenterThanks to modern dermatological techniques, we can fight back against sun damage, skin disorders, and even aging through facial rejuvenation. Facial rejuvenation is a cosmetic treatment (or series of treatments), which aims to restore a youthful appearance to your face by improving your skin’s health, texture, and coloration. It enhances you in a three-dimensional way!

The types of treatments chosen for facial rejuvenation may vary depending on the issues you’d like to correct. And just like with any procedure, a little prep work prior to your first appointment can help your experience go smoothly.

Here are some steps to take to help you get the best results (and keep reading… we have results from an actual patient posted below!):

1. Schedule a consultation first.

Before you schedule an appointment for your first skin rejuvenation session, you should first schedule a consultation with your provider. This will help you get more familiar with not only the procedure itself, but also your provider, the staff, and your expectations.

The initial consultation will help you understand facial rejuvenation, and will give you a chance to discuss your aesthetic goals. You can bring up any particular problem areas, such as sun damage or fine lines. This will help your dermatologist determine which procedures may be the best options for you, and what kind of results you can expect.

When talking with Dr. Lady Dy, plan to bring a photo or two from when you were younger. This helps Dr. Dy to know what your youthful appearance should look like.

2. Ask your dermatologist questions!

Your initial consultation is the perfect time to bring up any questions or concerns you may have, such as:

  • How long does the procedure take?
  • How many sessions will I need? How far apart should they be scheduled?
  • What kind of results can I expect? How long will it take to see those results?
  • Are there any risk factors involved?
  • Are there any side effects or downtime involved?
  • Do I need to prepare in any special way?
  • What self-care products should I use after the treatment?

The more information you have beforehand, the more prepared you’ll be, and the more smoothly the process will go.

3. Schedule your facial rejuvenation appointment.

A week after your consultation is usually more than enough time to help you prepare for facial rejuvenation. Make sure to schedule your session for a time that will keep you from being rushed. A hurried appointment may make you forget parts of your post-procedure care, and may even increase stress.

Ultimately, however, the amount of time you need will vary by procedure. For example, Sciton’s Forever Young BBL™ takes about 15 minutes and has no downtime afterward, so you can quickly return to your usual activities–you can even schedule a session on your lunch break.

In comparison, the Halo™ Hybrid Fractional Laser is a stronger treatment option that has a longer recovery stage. Your consultation should help you decide the best time for your appointment.

4. Do your prep work before facial rejuvenation treatments.

In the days leading up to your rejuvenation session, keep your skin moisturized and protect it from the sun with sunscreen and other products containing SPF. This helps prevent damage that can make your skin more sensitive. For the same reason, avoid using stronger skin-care products, such as those that contain retinol, a few days before your session.

If desired, you can take a mild pain reliever a few hours before the session. An over-the-counter pain reliever, such as Tylenol, can help reduce the mild pain or swelling associated with some laser skin procedures. (Avoid blood thinners, such as aspirin.) Your provider will also apply topical creams to help make you more comfortable during the procedure, so don’t worry if you forget your own pain reliever.

5. Follow post-procedure directions.

After your rejuvenation session, take note of all your provider’s instructions. Depending on your treatment, you may experience mild redness, swelling, or irritation. Cool compresses and over-the-counter medications will help.

Just like before the treatment, take care of your skin by protecting it from the sun and keeping it moisturized. Avoid smoking afterward, which can prevent enough oxygen from getting to your skin. You should also avoid too much alcohol, which is drying to your skin.

Here’s an example of one of Dr. Dy’s patients. This patient went through a three week process from beginning to end.

The right preparation can protect your skin and help you get the most out of your facial rejuvenation session. Ready for brighter, even, younger-looking skin? Schedule a consultation today with Dr. Dy at Dy Dermatology Center.
