A face lift is not your only option.

If your face is making you look tired or older — Ultherapy may be the solution you’re looking for right now.

What is Ultherapy?

Ultherapy uses non-invasive ultrasound technology to help lift and transform the skin on the neck, under the chin, on the eyebrow, and to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles on the décolletage (chest area). Ultherapy is currently the only non-invasive procedure cleared by the FDA to help lift mild-to-moderate loose skin in these areas.

Ultherapy works by stimulating the production of collagen, a protein found in skin and other connective tissue. Collagen is what gives our skin turgor, strength and integrity.

“Age-related collagen loss can cause loose, drooping skin,” said Dr. Lady Dy of Dy Dermatology Center in Glenview, Illinois. “Women often see reduced collagen synthesis after menopause. By stimulating collagen production, Ultherapy gives your skin a younger, fresher look.”

Ultherapy also uses traditional ultrasound imaging, which means dermatologists like Dr. Dy can actually see the layers of tissue being targeted. This way, she can deliver the Ultherapy energy where it is most helpful.

Many who are troubled by loose or sagging skin are older or experienced significant weight loss. There are several options for correcting these areas, but not all solutions appeal to everyone. Ultherapy is particularly appealing if you think that a face lift seems too extreme, don’t like needles, or are concerned about recovery time.

How do you prepare for an Ultherapy treatment session?

Dr. Dy will first schedule a consultation to discuss your aesthetic goals and evaluate the treatment areas, including your individual skin quality. Feel free to ask any questions you have about Ultherapy, side effects, and the results you can expect. Be sure to let your Ultherapy provider know if you have had any procedures done on the treatment area, and what medications you may be taking.

Session length depends on the areas being treated. For example, a session for the face and neck will take about 45-180 minutes, but a chest treatment can take only 30 minutes. Ultherapy does not require any downtime, so you can resume all your normal activities immediately!

After a session, some people may experience mild redness or swelling in the treatment area. You may want to schedule your treatment at a time that allows you to rest and relax afterward–though this decision is entirely up to you. Ultherapy does not require any special post-treatment measures.

What is an Ultherapy treatment session like?

During the treatment, you will feel the energy being sent into your skin at the depths your doctor has determined. This energy stimulates the collagen-building process.

Ultherapy is highly individualized, so your provider can reduce the intensity if you feel discomfort.

When will I see results?

Everyone’s skin is a little different, so the time it takes to see the effects of Ultherapy varies from person to person. You may see mild effects a few days or even hours after your session, but it can take 2-3 months to see the full results. Your body needs that much time to naturally produce new collagen.

In the same way, your body and individual aging process will determine how long the results will last. Most people only need one session to see the most results, but you can schedule additional sessions months or years later as your skin continues to age.
